The expansion will add approximately 9,000 square feet to the Belvedere Tiburon Library, bringing the total size of the library to about 19,500 square feet.
Donating appreciated stocks, bonds, or securities is an easy way to make an important contribution that helps to support the mission of the Belvedere Tiburon Library. Oftentimes donors realize tax benefits for gifts of this kind.
The Foundation's annual giving campaign invites community members to make an annual donation to support the Library's collection and programs. All gifts are tax-deductible to the full extent allowed by law.
Many companies match employee charitable contributions as well as volunteer hours. Please check with your company when making a gift.
The Belvedere Tiburon Library is one of our community’s most beloved and cherished resources. Thousands of residents and neighbors visit each year—for Toddler Storytime, language learning and conversation classes, computer instruction and support, for social connection, to study and research, and sometimes even just to read!
Everyone benefits from our community’s innovative Library, not only Library patrons, but also our schools, businesses, and property owners alike. With your help, the Belvedere Tiburon Library will not only continue to meet the literary and enrichment needs of the community in the near term, it will also remain a place for people of all ages to enjoy for many generations to come.
Bequests and other types of estate gifts provide vital support for the Library’s many services and programs. Legacy gifts will make a lasting impact on our provision of services, supporting our many different collections, free public programs, and for our many Children’s and Teen programs.
Would you like to make a gift that will cost you nothing now?
Make a gift from a retirement account.
If you are age 70 ½ and above you can make a Qualified Charitable Distribution (QCD) from your IRA completely free of federal income tax (up to $100,000 per person per year). Giving directly from your IRA to a qualified charity will count towards your required minimum distribution and won’t increase your adjusted gross income, possibly subjecting you income to a higher level of taxation and increasing your Medicare costs. It’s a powerful way to make a big impact this year.
Here are some of the ways you can leave a legacy to the Library:
Include a bequest in your will or living trust.

Make the Library the beneficiary of a retirement plan.
When you leave the unused balance of an IRA, 401(k) or 403(b) to your heirs, they will have to pay income tax when they withdraw the funds. You can simplify matters for your loved ones by directing all or a portion of what remains in your retirement accounts to charities and leaving other more tax-favored assets to your heirs. Designating a charitable beneficiary of a retirement account does not require you to change your will. Just ask your financial institution for a “Designation of Beneficiary” form. Each company has its own.
Give life insurance.
Make the Library the contingent beneficiary of all or a portion of a life insurance policy. If you have a policy that you no longer need for its intended purpose, consider giving it to the Library as an immediate gift.
Make a gift that gives back.
Life income plans can allow one to supplement their income and/or that of another person, benefit from significant tax savings and also make a gift to the Library. With a life income gift, you may be able to:
- Increase your income and/or that of another person
- Choose secure fixed payments or payments that may increase over time
- Avoid or reduce capital gains tax
- Claim a significant income tax deduction
- Make the gift you wish you could
